Paul Morphy, The Pride and Sorrow of Chess, New Edition

Paul Morphy (1837-84) var en av de største sjakkbegavelsene og ifølge Bobby Fischer tidenes sterkeste spiller. Denne fine nyutgaven av Lawsons monumentale biografi fra 1976 er en viktig begivenhet.

Historien om Paul Morphy så seriøst dokumentert kan ikke unngå å fascinere og røre alle oss sanne sjakkvenner.

Thomas Aiello har redigert denne nye utgaven med stor respekt for originalverket til David Lawson (1884-1980) som han på ingen måte har "klusset" unødig med. Den synlige forskjellen er at partidelen er tatt ut, og partiene finnes uansett bedre kommentert andre steder, for eksempel i Valeri Beims utmerkede bok "Paul Morphy - A Modern Perspective". Aiello starter ellers boka med en fin og passe introduksjon som både bringer boka forsiktig up-to-date og forteller om den ellers uventet anonyme forfattteren David Lawson som har utforsket og skrevet denne nærmest unike sjakkbiografien.
